John 10:14-15

 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Did you know that the Bible mentions sheep over 500 times and goats over 122 times? The flocks and herds of livestock were an integral part of life for the Israelites throughout history, thus the shepherd and sheep parables carried significant meaning based on their personal experiences. However, in this modern age where there is a wide separation between livestock and most of society, younger generations have a harder time understanding what it truly means for Christ to be our shepherd.

Psalm 23:1-4

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
