Private Horsemanship Lessons

Our private horsemanship lessons focus on the joy of riding.

There should only be two emotions on the ranch, patience and a sense of humor!

It's supposed to be fun!

 

Many of our lesson horses are rescues that have experienced dire circumstances, and we want to ensure that they always experience the best going forward and enjoy their job. Thus, our lessons focus on being advocates for the horse. Students learn how to ride lightly and correctly, with good form, a balanced seat, quiet hands, and soft cues. Everyone learns how to catch, tie, brush, tack up, groundwork, liberty, and saddle time. We customize the lessons according to the individual goal of students, and often set fitness goals, true to the belief that "we exercise to ride, not ride to exercise." Whether you simply want to be a connected rider, explore the trails, pursue some dressage, play around with jumping, or have lofty pursuits in endurance or competitive trail, you've come to the right place!

The lessons emphasize variety so nobody (especially the horses) find it mundane. Thus, we'll work in the arena, play in the forest, cruise down the road, or journey into the lake. We also integrate obstacles, poles, and cavallettis.

We're not a competitive ranch, but we do encourage setting goals to inspire better riding. For students that want to take it up a notch, they can compete with Brooke in endurance/competitive trail or have fun with virtual shows. We just don't enjoy the stress or politics of the formal show circuit.
